While true, the official first day of Summer does not arrive until June 21st, Veranda Beach’s first day of summer arrived today!

The Breadline Cafe has expanded its operations to Veranda Beach providing the community with the same wonderful and original home-style cuisine they serve everyday in Omak along with 1950′s Diner favorites including awesome burgers, milkshakes and malts!

Weekend Getaways in May

The beginning of May has brought us some amazing weather and it and it doesn’t look like the sun is going to stop shining any time soon!

This weekend is the 79th Annual Oroville May Festival on May 10th and 11th. Activities start off on Friday night with the Coronation of the May Festival Royalty. The fun continues on Saturday with a fishing tournament, pancake breakfast, Fun Run, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, farmers market, grand parade, car show and more!

The Victoria Day long weekend is a busy weekend at the Beach with our Veranda Beach Cellars Wine Release Party in the afternoon and the Fabulous 50’s Sock Hop later that night. Start the day by sampling Veranda Beach Cellars highly anticipated 2010 Collage as well as the 2012 Lakehouse and the 2012 Regatta Rose. Then hop into the time machine, put on your poodle skirts and boogey your night away at the Fabulous 50’s Sock Hop!

Fall is a pivotal season at Veranda Beach – a time of ripening, harvest and celebration.

Veranda’s Vineyard is plump with it’s annual bounty – the grapes turning a deep purple and the vine leaves edging into crimson, burgundy, and butterscotch shades. Sunlight shimmers through the prism of morning mist rising off the lake. Maple leaves along the beach trail deckle with gold.

Toast Fall’s arrival with Erik von Krosigk of Summerhilll Pyramid Winery during our Bubbles & Blues on the Beach event, Saturday, September 29th . Join us for a relaxed sunset evening on our private beach sipping and savoring six different Okanagan Sparkling Wines, paired with fresh oysters and caviar tapas, and the sounds of our local blues and jazz artist Tanya Lipscomb playing live on the beach!

Celebrate the harvest and join Veranda Beach Winemaker Katy Perry for a vineyard stroll and “Under the Okanogan Sun” picnic inspired by Tuscany on Saturday, October 6th from 12 – 3 pm. Veranda Beach Homeowners raise $20K+ for Oroville Elementary

The sky was filled with stars on August 11th at Veranda Beach, as was the events tent for the inaugural “Starry Night Gala” as Veranda Beach homeowners raised more than $20,000 for the Oroville Elementary School.

Oroville Elementary will receive a new playground and new computerized learning tools such as ipads, apps and software for the special education department. Our thanks to event organizers Kimberlea Pinette and Colleen Van Der Made for orchestrating a wonderful evening. August 11th, 2012 will always be remembered as a milestone in developing the community at Veranda Beach. But the $20,000 plus raised for the Oroville Elementary School trumps it all, a tremendous and lasting legacy of “A Starry Night” at Veranda Beach.

Unlike other seasonal transitions, the arrival of Summer is a heralded celebration! Officially, the first day of Summer is June 21st – the longest day of the year! Ask anyone when the first day of Fall, Winter or Spring is and they may be hard pressed to tell you – however almost everyone can name the first day of Summer! Shortly thereafter is the eagerly anticipated last day of school for families, some having counted down from as far as twenty days to the true commencement of Summer holidays! And then it’s long weekend fun for the entire family with Canada Day and Independence Day Celebrations on July 1st and July 4th. It is now time for Summer at the Cottage and freedom – Veranda Beach style!

Girl’s Getaway Weekend

Nikki’s story… My typical day starts out by waking up before the sun has even had a chance to peak over the horizon just so that I can send a few extra e-mails before it’s time to wake up my children. Those few minutes in the morning are the calm before the storm as once my kids are up my day really starts rolling. Just as I’m about to close my computer I get an e-mail from Susan, my best friend from the second grade. I could tell this was important because she didn’t even bother with the usual courteous ‘Hello, long time no talk…’. Instead she jumped right into it, “June 8th-10th, You! Me! Julie! and Lee-Anne! We’re going to the Girl’s Getaway Weekend at Veranda Beach!” Instantly I thought to myself, not a chance, between my family, my career and housework it’s hard to even find a moment in the day for myself never mind an entire weekend! Susan, who obviously knows me too well, knew it would take more convincing then that so she continued to tell me about the weekend. “I know what you’re thinking a whole weekend away… Not going to happen! Let me put it to you this way there are 365 days in a year and all I am asking is for you to take 2 1/2 of those 365 days for yourself. She did make a good point; I mean it is only 2 1/2 days I’m sure my family could manage without me.

I was just starting to think about it but my bags were by no means packed. She then went on to say, “I know I spoke to your voice of logic, now let me tell you about all the fun were going to get into! We’s start the trip off right with ice tea, beef jerky and Shania Twain en route to Veranda Beach, and then we’ll get into some wine. As soon as we get to Veranda Beach we get a welcome bottle of wine in our lakeside cottage and an invitation to a wine reception (when I talked to Julie on the phone this is where she instantly said YES!).

What a way to unwind on a Friday night, then on Saturday, the crew at Veranda Beach Resort has set up a healthy breakfast, followed by a energizing hike, or we can play a round of golf. (Susan knows I love to golf and rarely get time for it), or maybe try our hand at scrap-booking. She had me at golf. Saturday afternoon we can watch the poolside fashion show and shop at the boardwalk boutique as we sip on our complementary cocktails! As for the evening we have our choice of a wine pairing dinner at the Globe, the regular menu or could barbeque at our cottage and then take in a “chick-flick” by the pool. Sunday morning we will be partaking in the lakeside yoga as Lee-Anne has always wanted to try it. If I haven’t convinced you yet well I’m…I’m not sure but this is exactly what us girls need!”

She honestly had me convinced long ago, I can just imagine myself laying by the pool with no kids, no baseball, soccer or dance, no e-mails to check, no dinners to cook, no clothes to fold. My only worries would be friends, food, fashion and FUN! Plus I think I deserve a weekend with my girlfriends to refresh and replenish! Now I can hardly wait to catch up with the girls over a few glasses of wine!
