Veranda's Vineyard
At Veranda Beach we are committed to growing the very best fruit possible, using sustainable farming methods and to supporting our Winemaker in producing excellent wines. With our land's exceptional terroir, its' unique sandy soils and ideal microclimate, Veranda Beach is poised to join the outstanding estate wineries of the area.
The Veranda Beach Master Plan contemplates planting forty acres of vineyards over the coming years. More than nine acres of Barbera, Sangiovese and Riesling grapes have already been planted. Additional varietals including Syrah and Viognier will be planted to compliment Veranda's small lot production.
Well known Okanagan Valley grape grower Richard Cleave continues to oversee farming and day to day operations directing Vineyard Manager, Finis Hale in planning and caring for the vineyards.
When vineyard production warrants, Veranda's Estate Winery is proposed to be built at the eastern foot of Cactus Mountain. Construction of the winery will include a "Wine Cave" which will not only serve as wine storage but provide a unique venue for tastings, dinners and other special events.
The first harvest of Veranda grapes is anticipated in the fall of 2010. Well respected Washington Winemaker, Berle "Rusty" Figgins, has been appointed Winemaker at Veranda Beach and will preside over creating Veranda's first vintage. Rusty will also host special events at the Resort in his role of advisor and wine educator.
With its outstanding Beach, vibrant Village Center, the addition of Wine related activities and events, and future plans for a golf course, Veranda Beach is quickly becoming the Pacific Northwest's most popular destination.
